
Invitation Letter for Graduation Ceremony
OPT Students:
Notice: Graduation Status Letters are only issued during the spring semester. Students may submit their letter request between January and May for the SUNY New Paltz May Commencement ceremony.
Additional details about the Graduation Status Letter request will be available in January.
If you would like to invite your parents to visit you while you are completing OPT or STEM OPT, we encourage you to do so. Our experience has shown that invitation letters written by students may assist family members in obtaining a visa. However, as with any visa application, there is no guarantee a visa will be issued.
Providing your guests with the following items could assist their visa interview process:

A copy of your SUNY New Paltz transcript.

A copy of your most recent I-20 and EAD.

A Letter of Invitation written by you. (Since the purpose of a tourist visa involves visiting you, it is beneficial for your family and friends to have a letter of invitation written by you.)
