NYS Driver's License (DMV) Letter Request

 

While you aren’t required by the DMV to have a NYS Driver's License, many F-1 students choose to apply for a NYS Driver's License.  To get a NYS driver license, you must pass a written test, complete a 5-hour pre-licensing course and pass a road test to qualify for a NYS driver license. Eligibility for DMV Letter 

  • You must be in valid F-1 student status, 

  • enrolled full time,

  • current semester invoice must be processed or paid

  • current local address updated in my.newpaltz.edu, and

  • have no active holds on your record

 

Procedure

  1. Log in to your My ISS-Profile.   

  2. Click on “2. Requests.”  

  3. Under “What Can We Help You With”, see your request options, and click on the request you would like to make (Letter Request).

  4. Ensure that your address is current in my.newpaltz.edu and that no holds exist on your record.

  5. Complete the DMV Letter Request.

  6. Submit.

​​You will receive an email from the International Student Services office once your letter request has been issued. 

Please allow 3-5 business days for review & processing of request.
