Course Request 
Exchange, Visiting, and Dual Diploma Students

Enrollment in classes is subject to course availability and completion of prerequisites. Seats in some courses are only available to students majoring in that subject or for students who have an extensive background in that subject.  In such cases, we will contact departments directly and discuss registration possibilities while reviewing student's transcripts. Students are able to add or drop courses from their schedule during the first two weeks of the semester. All students are required to be registered in a minimum of 12 credits in order to maintain legal J-1 student status in the United States.

Exchange Students: 

Exchange students who participate in an exchange program in their last semester and who must complete specific courses in order to meet graduation requirements should note this on their course request and should confirm course registration before coming to New Paltz.

Exchange students may be eligible to take ESL classes while at SUNY New Paltz if they meet the following requirements:

• Attain a score below 80 for the internet-based/ 550 for the paper-based TOEFL or on the HELP English language proficiency test.

• Register by the end of the first week of classes for ESL classes
   

Dual Diploma Students: 

ITU/METU/PUC-Rio Business
- Business students should work directly with the Dual Diploma director and their School of Business advisor to discuss the steps for course registration.
 
CQUE Early Childhood Education
- Students will be registered for the appropriate classes each semester.
 
METU TESOL
- Students should complete the Course Request form based on the guidelines for their program and in consultation with the Dual Diploma director.
- Dual Diploma students are not eligible to take ESL classes, since English proficiency is required for admission. 
 

Procedure:  

• To complete Course Request, use the link at the bottom of the page.  

• You will be prompted to log into the International Student Platform, be sure to use your my.newpaltz.edu  credentials.  

• When entering your course selection please enter it as you see it in the schedule of classes:

• CRN (typically 3-4 digit number) followed by course Topic area (3 letters, e.g., ENG = English) followed by the three numbers denoting actual course (e.g., 100, 200, etc.), followed by the course name e.g., Composition I. Example - for Composition I - you would enter 6053 ENG160 Composition I.

  In order to complete course pre-registration for your incoming semester, we ask that you select at least 7 courses that interest you and list them in order of your preference.

• Once you complete the course Request, be sure to click Submit at the top of the page.
