New Student Checklist
The checklist to help guide you as you begin your New Paltz journey!


 

 Activate & Access Your New Paltz Email

 Activate your New Paltz email address. A one-time activation email will be sent to your personal email address within 24 hours of when your deposit is paid.

 After activation, access your New Paltz email account one of four ways.

• Go to outlook.newpaltz.edu
• Go to newpaltz.edu; click on the Resources on the top right and select Office 365.
• Log on to my.newpaltz.edu and click Office 365 at the top right.
• Download the free Microsoft Outlook app on iPhone or Android and follow these instructions to access your email on your mobile device.

 Preparing Your Immigration Documents For Your Interview
 ITU/METU/CQUE -The information on the Applying for an F-1 Visa site will help you plan your arrival and next steps in obtaining your F-1 student visa.
 PUC-Rio - The information on the Applying for Your J-1 Visa site will help you plan your arrival and next steps in obtaining your J-1 student visa.  
 

 

 Course Registration  
 Student must complete the Course Request Form. We do our best to register you into your top choices. Please take note that space in some classes is limited, therefore all of your top choices may not be available. 
 All students must accept financial responsibility, before beginning the registration process.  Log in to my.newpaltz.edu > Registration.
 
Any questions or concerns about your course registration should be sent to your SUNY New Paltz Program Coordinator.  
 

 

❹ Initiate your Campus Housing Request 
  Submit a Housing Request via the International Student Platform using the On-Campus Housing request
Your request for on-campus housing will be forwarded to the Office of Residence Life, which makes all the housing assignments.
 
 
❺ Request JFK Airport Shuttle Service  
 Airport Pick up Request << This step is optional for all international students. >>
If you arrive on New York on or before the official airport pickup date. you may use our direct shuttle service from JFK Airport to New Paltz. Follow the link above to make your request. We only offer shuttle service on the official airport pickup date, not on any other date. 
 
 
❻ International Student Orientation 
✓  Mandatory- All new international students must attend orientation.
✓ International Student Orientation & Registration Program is required for all new international students.

 Student ID Card 
  Order your Student ID Card at least one week prior to the International Student Orientation.

 Submit your Immunization and Health Information

Please log into Medicat to submit the following (all forms available in Medicat):
 Immunization records
  • If you reside in a high-risk country, we strongly encourage testing for tuberculosis be completed PRIOR to arrival to avoid expensive health care costs
 Physical Form


Health Insurance - All international students are required to purchase the State University of New York health insurance policy. Students are automatically enrolled in our comprehensive student health insurance plan upon course registration.
